Hi!! my name is Gary Low, over two decades ago I started helping people out with their renovations as a side hobby interest while I was studying. One thing that caught my eye was how many people were getting the run around by builders, and many didn't even know it. Lots of people thought the build didn't have to be completely finished and defect free for them to pay the final build. Pretty soon after that, my renovation hobby turned into a full time, end of build, finisher. After new builds were "finished" we would be left with over a page of defects, some minor, some major and sometimes life threatening.

Why local Brisbane builders don't finish well.

Its important to understand builders are human and suffer basic human psychology. Machines run around digging and the slab gets poured. Once the frame goes up its really satisfying. I have heard tradies say at this point, so many times, that we are half finished. I would say its about the 10% mark. Cladding and roofing being installed is also pretty dynamic, so again a feeling of achievement ensues. The problem now is that the next items are slower and smaller. Waterproofing, tiling, kitchens and carpeting aren't as stark looking as a new frame.

Are we there yet?

The biggest trouble begins when you are trying to finish. Every time you create a list and start to work on it, a new list appears. Someone has carelessly damaged things, scratches, chips and misses are noticed. A three day estimate, soon turns into two weeks, then four. Meanwhile the builder is starting new projects which are more satisfying while still in their dynamic phases. The urge to cover up, lie or negotiate overwhelms the priority to finish well. If you pay them now, guess what happens.......

We have a long history of completing our own projects in Brisbane, which stretches back over two decades. A time when the internet was in its infancy. The timeline you will see here mainly showcases the past five to seven years. This is actually due to the lack of content and photography from older works. Most of the projects we complete are bespoke builds requiring a hands on approach when considering building design and engineering. Generally avoiding the "bulk builds", because we find them to be a race to the bottom on price and quality. It provides little interest or incentive.

Many renovation and building processes can be daunting. You can end up spending a lot of extra money on unnecessary items if you lack experience in the building game. A family team and local northside Brisbane builder renovating in Brisbane for nearly two decades. We build our own projects, manage rental properties and work with body corporate offices, real-estate agents and other building professionals. However we also perform lots of work helping homeowners achieve their renovation and maintenance goals. After that we provide dedication to finish the job cleanly, on time and to a finish we would all be happy with.

Sourced a couple of quotes from builders as you do and both quotes were very similar although Gary had a lot more detail in his quote and meticulously explained exactly what my investment into my business covered and what the outcome will look like. This was a big investment for me and I felt that Gary was more invested into this job than the other builder. Communication between us was fantastic and the job was certainly completed to my satisfaction and I am very happy with the outcome. It can be quite challenging to find businesses to carry out works such as mine when you are on a relatively tight timeline and I certainly appreciate Gary's patients with me during what a stressful time when relocating a business.
